Sanna Sorvari Sundet is the Interim Leader of ESFRI project ACTRIS – Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure – dedicated to proving high-quality observations and information on short-lived atmospheric constituents and the processes leading to the variability of these constituents in natural and controlled atmospheres. ACTRIS provides state-of-the-art data, services and procedures to enable understanding on atmospheric processes, improving our resiliency to climate change, and air quality, contributing to reduce the effects of air pollution on public health and ecosystems. More than 100 research performing organizations in 22 countries have been participating in the preparation phase of ACTRIS. ACTRIS kicks off its implementation phase in January 2020 and aims to become an ERIC in 2021 (ACTRIS ERIC Step 1 submitted to EC in March 2019).
Sorvari Sundet’s experience working with Research Infrastructures and Environmental data started in 2009 when Sorvari Sundet joined ICOS – Integrated Carbon Observation System – preparatory phase project. Since then, she has been involved in several RIs, particularly in setting up ICOS ERIC and ACTRIS, chairing the Board of European Environmental Research Infrastructures (BEERi), vice-chairing the H2020 Expert Advisory Group member for RIs and e-RIs, leading and participating in global research data activities (e.g. OECD Expert Group on International Data Infrastructure Coordination, Scientific Committee of ICSU – World Data Systems), and contributing to EOSC via various roles and projects. Through these experiences Sorvari Sundet has gained a comprehensive understanding on the development and establishment of RIs and on the importance of collaboration at European and international level in order to reach common goals. Sorvari Sundet is currently based in Helsinki, Finland, leading the ACTRIS Head Office and leading the implementation of ACTRIS.
