Prof. Tony Spassov
Tony Spassov obtained a Master’s degree in Chemistry (1984) from the Sofia university “St. Kliment Ohridski” and PhD degree in physical chemistry (1988). In 2004 he obtained Dr.Sci. degree in Solid State Chemistry and since 2005 he is professor. His research interests are in the field of Nanocrystalline (nanostructured) and amorphous materials; Hydrogen storage materials; Chemical and electrochemical corrosion and selective dissolution of amorphous and nanocrystalline materials. Prof. Spassov has co-authored more than 150 academic publications, 1 book chapter and 1 textbook in Solid state chemistry. Prof. Spassov has specialized in Dortmund, Koeln and Bochum universities (Germany), Central Michigan University (USA), University of Melbourne (Australia). He has been guest-professor at the UAB (Barcelona, Spain) and Alexander von Humboldt fellow in Germany.
Prof. Spasov is presently Dean of the Faculty of chemistry and pharmacy at Sofia university and Head of department Applied inorganic chemistry. He has coordinated 3 international projects (FP5 and FP7 of EC); member of Management Committee of COST action in nanomaterials for hydrogen storage; member of the Management Board of Centre of excellence “Mechatronics and clean technologies”. Prof. Spassov has received a National award “Pitagor” as most successful manager of international projects (2013), Award of the Ministry of Education and Science in Bulgaria (2014) and Medal of honour “St. Kl. Ohridski” with blue band (2011).
