Ivan Popov is deputy executive director of Executive Agency “OP Science and Education for Smart Growth”, Bulgaria. He has a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of National and World Economy and a Master’s degree in European Economic Integration form the New Bulgarian University.
He has more than 15 years of experience in strategic planning, project cycle management, programming and evaluation of EU Structural Funds, including integrated planning, financial instruments and major projects.
From 2010 to 2018 he was a head of programming and evaluation department and a deputy general director in OP “Regional Development”/OP “Regions in Growth” with a key role in the development of the integrated urban planning and the establishment and implementation of the JESSICA initiative in Bulgaria.
He has been part of a number of EU working groups and networks such as JESSICA Networking Platform, Territorial Cohesion and Urban Matters, Urban Development Group, National Territorial Cohesion Contact Points.
From 2018 to 2019 he was director of the “Programming, Monitoring and Evaluation” Directorate in EA “OP Science and Education for Smart Growth”, and had a key role in the preparation of a 30 mln. eur. grant procedure under the operational programme, which provides a complementary ESIF support to successful projects in Horizon 2020 WIDESPREAD Teaming Phase 2.
